Hi, I'm Lauren!

My journey into outdoor learning began long before I became an educator—rooted in childhood days filled with freedom, risk, curiosity, and the kind of unstructured time outside that quietly shapes who we become.

I carried those memories into my early career at a local Nature School, where I learned how powerful land-based routines, storytelling, and place connection can be. Later, as an elementary school teacher, I worked to merge those practices with classroom curriculum, helping students build confidence, community, and wonder outdoors.

My master’s degree focused on documenting outdoor learning experiences—how to make students’ thinking visible, how to capture growth across seasons, and how to bring the community into the learning journey.

Now, as an educator, author, and parent, my mission is simple: to give children—including my own—the same sense of freedom, choice, and joyful risk that shaped my childhood. I believe outdoor learning isn’t an “extra”—it’s a pathway to deeper academics, stronger mental well-being, and more meaningful relationships. That’s the heart of Teach Outdoors.
